Following the launch of the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) Wellread National Award in 2015, the PDST would like to invite schools to register for a possible award in October 2021 or thereafter.
The PDST Wellread National Award aims to promote the development of a reading culture in school communities towards supporting the personal and academic development of our young people. It involves all stakeholders including students, teachers, parents, Board of Management and the wider community in reading and associated activities.
We would like to invite teachers to attend a one and a half-hour on-line Information Session. I would be grateful if you could bring this schedule to the attention of the relevant teachers in your school. This session will outline ways in which schools might explicitly foster and nurture a reading culture in their school, including exploring practical considerations concerning the reading environment and establishing reader networks. This session will also consider ways in which schools might capture their ‘Wellread’ journey. Further information can also be found on the PDST website. Please ensure you have good internet service to attend these workshops and that you have access to the email address provided.
For schools who are already on their Wellread journey and registered from the academic year of 2018-2019, you do not need to re-register. Schools who registered in the academic year of 2017-2018 will need to re-register for the Wellread Award. The date for submitting your portfolio this year will be Friday 7th May 2021.
