Dr. Pierpaolo Dondio is a full-time lecturer in Computer Science at TU Dublin. He has extensive industry and innovation experience, including working with IBM (2002-2004) and AON Center for Analytics (2010-2011). He is currently leading the Intelligent Games Group at TU Dublin. Pierpaolo is a multidisciplinary researcher with core research interests in Artificial Intelligence and Computer & Education. He launched the Happy Maths programme In September 2019, a programme aimed to engage primary schools with digital games for Maths. Among the awards he received are the Teaching Hero Award 2021, awarded by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Learning in Higher Education, the TU-Dublin President Award 2019/2020, representing the highest research recognition of the University, 3 international awards for “best game” at the Irish Conference on Game based Learning 2019 and the European Conference on Game-based Learning 2019 and the 2023 Fulbright Scholar Award to carry on Happy Maths research in the USA. In 2023, he was the general chair of GALA 2023, the major European conference on game-based learning organized by the SGS, of which he has been a key member since 2021.

Dr. Attracta Brennan is a lecturer in the School of Computer Science at the University of Galway. Her research interests span a number of areas, including: adaptive learning systems, game-based learning, socio-technical systems to support older people, AR/VR and medical informatics. She was recently involved in a clinical trial investigating the efficacy of AR pose-tracking exergames in improving balance and reducing the risk of falls for people with osteoporosis. She is also involved in a second clinical trial exploring the use of a multi user task based virtual reality (VR) space to support socialisation and quality of life for people with dementia.

Dr. Mariana Rocha is a lecturer at the School of Computer Science at the Technological University Dublin. Her research interests are related to the use of technology for teaching and learning, especially considering digital games potential in STEM education. She has experience producing multimedia content for children between 6 and 12 years old. During her PhD, Mariana designed and implemented Once Upon a Maths, an adventure web application for primary school children. The game is based on the real history of mathematics and uses situated learning to allow children to work on their problem-solving skills. She is also interested in supporting teachers in developing innovative teaching skills. Mariana developed BlendMaster, a non-digital board game that helps teachers identify online teaching strategies.  Furthermore, Mariana is a member of the steering committee for the REDIT project, an initiative funded by the Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland, aiming to design and develop games that support the needs of immigrant children in Finland. Mariana is the co-founder of the Happy Maths project.
