Gentle Yoga

Yoga is a science, the science of being present - to yourself and to the world around you. In the present moment there is usually no fear or worry. It’s when the mind is jumping to the past or predicting the future, analysing or judging that the mind is not at peace. So how does yoga work……Yoga combines awareness of the physical body, the senses, the breath and the thoughts to anchor us to the present moment. Every part of the body correlates to an area of the brain . Yoga systematically brings the awareness to each area of the body and through releasing movements known as asana help to release tension being held in these joints and muscles. This, in return, helps to release tension in the brain or mind. The breath is central to the practice of yoga . The breath is a very powerful tool in life and is always with us. Most of the time we don’t notice the breath. But when we do begin to notice it and to regulate it, it can bring about great improvements in our mental and physical health and wellbeing. For centuries, the yogis have known about the health benefits of working with the breath and controlling it to control the energy of the body. Meditation is also another very important aspect of some yoga traditions and every effort to reach a meditative state is worthwhile. While practicing, the yoga mat becomes an oasis. A way to honour yourself by taking time out from the busy world to just tune into the body. Gentle yoga classes are for everyone, regardless of age, fitness level or gender so join this gentle yoga class and try it out for yourself.

Bring a blanket, a yoga mat and an open mind and heart!
