Primary Child Protection Seminar

As you are aware, the Department of Education and Skills issued the Revised Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post Primary Schools in December 2017 underpinned by the revised guidelines ‘Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children 2017’. The PDST therefore was also required to update its range of supports for schools in line with the revised procedures and new guidelines.  Due to demand, the PDST are facilitating Child Protection Seminars seminars this spring.

Please Note:This seminar will be identical to the Child Protection Seminars for Designated Liaison Persons (DLP) and Deputy Designated Liaison Persons (DDLP) which were facilitated by PDST in Autumn 2019.

The seminar will specifically focus on the role and responsibilities of the DLP/DDLP including liaising with external agencies, supporting staff, reporting to Tulsa, communications with the Board of Management /parents, curriculum implementation etc.

It is intended that in advance of attending this seminar, the DLP and DDLP will have engaged with both of PDST’s E-Learning Programmes in preparation for the training:

1.       Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post Primary Schools 2017 - eLearning Programme for All School Personnel (duration 1.5 hours)

2.       Risk Assessment and the Development of Child Safeguarding Statement (duration 1 hour)

These are available at www.pdst.ie/ChildProtectionPlaces on this seminar are strictly reserved for DLPs and DDLPs only. The Department of Education and Skills will facilitate substitute cover where necessary.

Please see the Schedule of Seminars on www.pdst.ie/onlinebooking.  Both the DLP and the DDLP attending should check their PDST Online Booking account to ensure their details are correct, in particular their roll number.
