Let's Get Writing Right!

“Handwriting is rooted in the spirit, even though it appears by means of bodily senses.”

― Al-Nazzam

Handwriting is a complex skill, best taught systematically. Early writers are starting to

·       Make a connection between symbols and meaning.

·       Wantto talk about their drawing.

·       Gain control over their muscles and direction.

Teachers have growing concerns that children are less active and lack fundamental movement skills as they transition into primary school. Children need to have strength and control over at least 25 different muscles to be able to write a word!.

This Webinar will focus on:

  • ·     Understanding the movement skills required for handwriting development.

—  Supporting children to develop the movement skills required for handwriting.

—  Accessing advice and resources on how to support early writers in the classroom.

Facilitated by Michelle Bergin, PCCC Occupational Therapy Department, Galway.
